Morgan Pitner: Where are they now? JC Macek III is an LSUS alumni and novelist. Bloodhound books published his most recent novel, "Cargo." "Cargo" is a crime-thriller that is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat.

JC Macek III: Hello, my name is JC Macek III, I am a writer, journalist, all sorts of things. My third novel just came out last week. It was honestly one of the most interesting writing challenges of my entire career.

Pitner: JC also recalls his time at LSUS.

Macek: I started my writing career at LSUS. It was really the people in the department that made me say, "Okay, let's pursue this path.

Pitner: Dr. Dubose, one of JC's mentors, shares fond memories.

Dr. Dubose: He was a good writer, a very good writer. This sounds trivial in a way, but he had a great vocabulary. I remember his writing and speech would sometimes include that sort of language. It was very thought-provoking and emotive use of language. I'm not surprised he ended up being a writer. Both he and I were big fans-or are big fans-of and American horror writer from the early twentieth century. His name was H.P. Lovecraft. This movie came out called, "In the Mouth of Madness," which obviously based on some of the ideas Lovecraft incorporated in his stories and novels. He gave it to me and I've treasured it ever since. I remember our talking about Lovecraft and our love for science-fiction and horror-fiction. I've had this ever since.

Pitner: JC continues living in Southern California with his family, writing for a nationally recognized magazine called, "Pop Matters" and his website, "World's Greatest Critic."
