Counseling Services Presents Programs to Help Students Manage Mental Health

by Shelby Willis

As the new year and new Spring semester start to swing into full gear, students may be starting to become swamped with assignments and their first exams of the semester. School can be overwhelming at times, and it is important to always remember to take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally. The LSUS Counseling Services has made sure to provide various workshops, presentations, and activities for students to give themselves a mental break.

All semester long, there will be a workshop series available to students via Zoom every Wednesday at 11 a.m. These workshops discuss happiness and the five pillars of well-being, how food impacts mental health, codependency in relationships and self worth, how important a good night’s sleep is in relation to mental health, learning to manage stress, and the benefits of yoga and mindfulness. The Zoom links will be sent to each student’s school email.

Another series presented by the LSUS Counseling Services is a podcast series called “Say It Loud!” featuring four LSUS students as the hosts and some faculty and staff as guest speakers. This podcast is available on several platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and YouTube. There are episodes lined up until March and there are more episodes in the works.

LSUS Counseling Services is also offering virtual meditations for “Mindful Monday.” Every Monday at 11:15 a.m. until April 19, excluding March 1 and 8, students can join a Zoom meeting where they will be able to choose a theme focused on their current needs and will be walked through a calming, stress-reducing exercise. This will help students feel recharged, empowered, and ready to conquer the rest of the week! The links to these Zoom meetings will also be available via student email.

Midterms are an especially overwhelming time during the semester. Master your midterms by joining the LSUS Counseling Services in their “Zen Zone.” During midterms week between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, students will be able to walk into Counseling Services at their convenience and have an entire meditation experience. Aromatherapy, calm music, relaxed lighting, props, and guided stress-reducing meditations will be provided. Students should leave feeling positive, relaxed, and ready to ace their midterm exams.

Students can check out all that the LSUS Counseling Services has to offer this semester on the LSUS website. Be sure to check your student email for Zoom events and other activities. Remember to take care of yourself and always put your health first!
