The cover for this story is of Brendan Burns, who in his third season as a Pilot, finally got to step foot on Pilot Field during the final game of this series. The junior had served his whole LSUS career as the team’s bullpen catcher. Never saw playing time, never complained. After taking a pitch off the knee, he now has a 1.000 on-base percentage as a Pilot. As reported by The Advocate, the one thing on Burns’ mind in his at-bat was to “get the job done”, the one thing he has done his whole career.
On March 13 and 14, LSUS and Texas College went head-to-head for a three-game set at Pilot Field. Yes, the same Texas College LSUS beat 42-4 last year. I will say though, this year’s match-up went a little differently. Nonetheless, the Pilots were still able to do Pilot things and extend their Pilot Field win streak.
The 2026 meeting between these two did not break any school or national records. In fact, something crazier happened. Texas College took the first lead in all three games; all in the first inning.
Of course, the Pilots found a way to win all three games. In game 1, LSUS took it 9-4. David Hankins shut things down after a shaky first, giving up a total of one earned run on six hits, four walks and eight strikeouts. The seventh and final innings were a bit shaky with the Steers scoring three of their four runs. It took three Pilot relievers to get the job done and keep the home win streak alive.
In game two, the offense was highlighted by homers from Brett Justice, Makana Olaso, Dorien Jackson, and Carlos Sanchez. Brock Lucas dominated over seven innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits, and a season-high thirteen strikeouts. A Nazir Mendez sacrifice fly ended the game one inning early in the eighth inning as the Pilot earned the run-rule victory. 11-1.
The third and final game started off with a bang when Selvin Anderson of Texas College hit a two-run bomb off starter Virot Siharath. Siharath eventually calmed down, going four strong allowing two earned runs on four hits and five strikeouts. Robert Lastra, Cade Robin, and Joan Roman each pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen. Sanchez again lead the offense with three hits, six RBIs, and a three-run homer. Final score, LSUS 15-2.
