A New Chapter for The Almagest [1]
New Features and a Renewed Vision
There’s new energy building at The Almagest, and as the newly elected president, I’m excited to be part of what’s ahead.
As we settle into the academic year, our team is working to breathe new life into LSUS’s student news publication. From refreshing our newsroom to introducing new features and expanding our presence in the community, we’re making changes that we hope will create a more engaging experience for both our staff and readers. And we’re just getting started!
A Fresh Start Behind the Scenes
One of our first priorities has been creating an environment where creativity and collaboration can thrive. We’re reorganizing and refreshing our newsroom and transforming our existing meeting and work areas into spaces designed for brainstorming, collaboration, and content creation. Our goal is to give staff members an environment that encourages them to exchange ideas, develop stories, and bring their creative visions to life. Great stories often begin with great conversations, and we want our newsroom to be a place where those conversations happen naturally.
Taking the Almagest Beyond Campus
We’re also making a greater effort to connect with the Shreveport-Bossier community by getting out of the newsroom and into the action. We’ll be attending more local events and connecting with community members so that we can bring readers coverage of the people, experiences, and happenings that make our city unique. From campus activities to some of the region’s most anticipated events, we want The Almagest to become a familiar presence both on and off campus. This means that you can plan to see us cover Prize Fest 2026!
Free Headshots? All year long.
Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, preparing for graduation, applying for internships, or simply need a professional photo, The Almagest wants to help.
We’re introducing free headshot sessions this academic year, available to LSUS students, faculty, and staff. Stop by The Almagest office on Tuesdays between 1-2pm, where Gabbi will be able to capture your next great headshot. This is our small token of gratitude to give back to the campus while putting our creative resources to good use.
Calling All Movie Lovers!
We’re adding some consistent entertainment to mix with Movie Mondays. This is a monthly feature from our movie critics, Cameron and Peter. Each month they share their perspectives on some of the latest and most talked about films, giving readers the inside scoop on what might deserve a spot on their new movie-night lineup.
As I step into this role, one of the things that excites me most is the opportunity to work alongside a team of talent who brings different perspectives, interests, and creative strengths to the newsroom. The Almagest has history worth celebrating, including its recognition as an award-winning student publication. As we look toward the future, I hope we can build on that legacy while creating something that reflects the voice and interests of today’s LSUS community, producing news and features that are just as informative as they are inspiring.
This is a new chapter for The Almagest, and we’re looking forward to continuing to write it together.
