On March 14, the LSU-Shreveport men’s basketball team booked their ticket to the Sweet 16 in Kansas City for the fourth time since 2022. They did so in a hard-fought win against the Texas Wesleyan Rams.
Shreveport dominated in the first half, going into halftime with an 18 point lead. Thaddeus Johnson led the charge with 13 points in the first half. Hayden Brittingham played a crucial role with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
In the second half, LSUS was able to get up to a 20 point lead, but you never count anyone out in March. The Rams made it as close as a 3 point game with 22 seconds left in the game. The Pilots were lucky to have as big of a lead as they did, seeing they were outscored by 14 points in the second half.
Khi Wallace managed 17 of the 28 second half points scored by the Pilots, and was a huge part of the victory, finishing with a 23-point, 11 rebound double-double. For Texas Wesleyan, DaVeon Scott and Montez Young Jr. each tallied 18 points. 16 of Scott’s points came in the second half.
Despite letting Wesleyan get close, as you see by the title, the Pilots held on. The defense locked down the hot Rams offense in the final minute, capping things off with Wallace taking away a missed 3 point attempt from Anthony Sierras as time expired. The Pilots now focus on Ave Maria in the Sweet 16, which takes place at 2:30 Friday afternoon.
