The Shreveport Aquarium will be kicking off summer by letting families and the community experience real-life mermaids swimming alongside tropical fish and sharks. Located at 601 Clyde Fant Parkway, the aquarium has been part of the local community since 2017 and is a well-known attraction along the Red River. Starting May 30 and running through June 7, the company will be adding live mermaid performances to its family-fun experience.
To ensure that visitors have the highest quality experience, the Shreveport Aquarium has partnered with AquaMermaid, an entertainment company with a network of more than 500 professional mermaids across the United States and Canada. Not only is there a carefully choreographed swimming routine by performers, but there is also a meet-and-greet for guests to meet the mermaids up close, take photos, and capture family memories.
The mermaid show is included with all general aquarium admission, but two upgrade experiences are available: the Mermaid Magic pass and the VIP Mermaid Makeover Experience. The Mermaid Magic Pass comes with a mermaid or pirate swag bag, along with front-row viewing access. Meanwhile, the VIP Mermaid Makeover Experience includes access to a private party makeover room, mermaid crafts, front-row viewing, and early meet and greet access, along with a mermaid-themed cupcake, a special gift, and professional face painting.
In addition to the new mermaids, there are plenty of other experiences to enjoy at the Shreveport Aquarium, including the indoor mining sluice and up-close animal interactions. The Red River Treasure mine gives everyone a chance to hunt for gemstones, fossils, and shark teeth while learning more about Louisiana. There are also feeding events to participate in featuring stingrays, baby alligators, and sharks, along with specialized touch pools where visitors can pet sea stars, anemones, and moon jellies.
