On June 17th, Flying Heart Brewing & Pub and The Independence Bowl Foundation hosted it's monthly Pizza & Pints for a Purpose. The fundraiser benefits local teachers by donating a portion of the evening’s earnings to the Extra Yard for Teachers Foundation and giving teachers a 10% discount during the event.
Pizza & Pints for a Purpose takes place at Flying Heart Brewing & Pub every third Wednesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will continue through September.

Britteny Salcer, Evening Manager at Flying Heart, describes giving back as the company's motivation behind Pizza & Pints for a Purpose nights.
“Teachers, as we all know are underpaid and understaffed across the world right now” said Salcer “and so Independence Bowl is a great organization at giving back and paying it forward to the people that help our community.”

According to the World Population Review, Louisiana teachers are the fifth lowest paid in the United States.
The College Football Playoff Foundation, Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative is a nonprofit organization that focuses on inspiring and empowering quality teachers. The organization’s mission is to give recognition to the teaching profession, provide teachers with professional development opportunities, and invest in teacher and classroom resources.
“They’ll match funds (Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative) that we bring to the table and so that way we can kind of expand our reach and our impact on teachers here locally.” Said Erik Evenson, Independence Bowl Director of Communications, “So since 2021, when we partnered with them, we’ve actually donated about $140,000 to teachers in the local area through their matching grants and through the money we’ve raised too.”
The Independence Bowl Foundation also works with DonorsChoose, a nonprofit that allows teachers to submit projects and request supplies for their classrooms. To date, DonorsChoose has fulfilled over 2 million classroom project requests since its founding in 2000.
“So, we'll go in and we'll support certain projects with different teachers and in last couple of years, we've started donating $1000 gift cards to DonorsChoose to different teachers throughout the year,” said Evenson “So they don't have to have a pre-planned project or anything. They can get the money and create a project that they want to work on and that they want to bring to their classroom.”
