20-0? I Thought This Was A Soccer Match?! [1]

The LSUS men’s soccer team put together a historic offensive performance Thursday, October 15th, at the Swamp, scoring 20 goals in a shutout victory over Texas College to set a new program record for goals in a single match.

The Pilots had 10 different goal scorers in the historic 20-0 victory this past Thursday, led by Jacob Botterill [3], who found the back of the net six times and finished with 13 total match points. LSUS would also established a program record with 17 total match assists on the afternoon as well.

The scoring would begin just 3:40 into the match, with the first goal being accounted for by David Vejsmose [4]. Botterill followed up with a hat trick, 3 goals, of his own just before the 13 minute. Vejsmose would then find the back of the net two more times, securing his own hat trick, quickly followed up by a goal by Jeremy Lafargue [5] to push the Pilots lead to 7-0.

LSUS continued to stay in cruise control in the pilots seat, applying more pressure to the Steers defense as the first half continued. Pablo Fuentes [6] scored the eighth goal of the match at 27:03, assisted by Pierre Ulloa [7], his first on the season.

After scoring eight times in the first half, LSUS would come out only more dominant than we have already seen before, scoring 12 more goals after half-time.

Botterill scored again at the 47:31 mark, thus leading the Pilots on an extraordinary scoring run. Four different players scored during a stretch beginning at the 54:08, when Vejsmose, Botterill, and Jordan Mati [8] all found the net. Jesus Bravo added another goal, and Mathias Martinez de Sucre [9] converted a penalty kick before scoring again himself just 57 seconds later. This rapid sequence put LSUS ahead 15-0.

Vejsmose reached his record setting fifth goal for the match at 62:05. Botterill followed at 65:01, securing his sixth goal of the match, setting the LSUS program single-game record for an individual player. At 67:54, Botterill would assist Estafano Barreiro [10] to find the net, finishing the match with six goals and one assist for 13 total points. Ryuki Kato [11] converted a penalty kick at 85:36, and Sammuel Hammoum [12] scored at 90:00 to deliver the final goal of the afternoon.

The Pilots would finish the match with a 45-1 advantage in shots, and put up 29 attempts on target [13]. LSUS would also earn 15 corner kicks, compared to Texas Colleges 1, while the Steers were unable to register a single shot on goal.

Following this week's matchups, the Pilots stand at an overall record of 9-4-2, and a 4-2-1 [14] in the RRAC. The men’s pilots team will be in action again on October 22nd at the Swamp to host Louisiana Christian in another RRAC matchup.
