First year head coach for the Pilots, Deacon Jones, comes to LSUS with a very impressive coaching resume. Coach. Jones started his coaching career at St. Thomas Moore High School in Lafayette, Louisiana; where he would compile a 120-13 record over the course four seasons, and captured back-to-back state championships in 2011 and 2012. Jones then would spend the next 13 seasons with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, serving as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator. During his tenure at ULL, they would win back-to-back Women’s basketball invitationals in 2015 and 2016 and made their first WNIT appearance in 2021. Most recently, Coach. Jones was the men’s basketball head coach of Texas A&M Texarkana, leading them to a 20-10 record during the 2025-2026 season before taking over for Shreveport. LSUS hired Jones on June 30th, 2026 to take over for former LSUS women’s basketball coaches, Tim and Krista Hays, who served as the head coaches for two seasons.

Brooklyn King, a new transfer from Kilgore Community College, led the Pilots this past Tuesday night with a double-double, recording a team-high of 16 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. London Robinson followed suit with 13 points on 6-8 shooting, while Miaya Ware added 10 points and dished out three assists. Dacia Jones contributed a team-high of seven assists, keeping the Pilots in cruise control throughout the game.

LSUS jumped out to a hot start, taking an early 9-3 lead before Arkansas Baptist tied the game up at 19 a piece by the end of the first quarter. The Pilots responded quickly in the second quarter, outscoring the Buffalos 18-9 from shots put together by Ware, King, and Katie Ambrose to take the game 37-28 heading into halftime.

The Pilots managed to build upon their lead even more coming off the break. They held Arkansas Baptist to just seven points in the quarter, extending the lead to 49-35 heading into the final period. Much like we saw throughout the night, it would be all LSUS going into the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 16 points which was the largest lead of the evening. LSUS would close out the game 66-53, giving them their first victory here at the Dock of the season.

LSUS finished with the game shooting 50% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arch. They held Arkansas Baptist to 28.8% shooting and 21.7% from the 3-point line. LSUS also held a 36-22 advantage in points from the paint and recorded 16 total assists all around.

With this victory in the books, the Pilots women’s basketball team stands at a 2-1 overall record with a lot of momentum going forward to win the RRAC back-to-back. The next time you can catch these Pilots in action will be on Wednesday, November 4th at 4:00pm as they take on College of Biblical Studies of Houston here at The Dock.
